Up Next is a social watchlist for movies and TV shows: somewhere to keep the things you mean to get around to, and a way to find the next one when you’re out of ideas. Add a title once and it stays on your list, sorted into what you’re interested in, what’s up next, what you’re currently watching, and what you’ve watched and rated. Create your own tags/lists to organize shows and movies any way you want.
The hard part of picking something is the logistics. Up Next gives you ideas and tells you what’s currently trending, shows where a title is actually streaming in your country, so you aren’t opening four apps to find out, and puts the IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, and Metacritic scores next to each other so you can decide in one look.
The social half is what makes a watchlist worth keeping. Follow your friends and you’ll see what they’re watching, what they’ve finished, and how they rated it. You can rate anything you’ve seen and add a short text take: enough to say why a show worked or didn’t, without writing a long review. Follow people with similar tastes to get recommendations that land better than an algorithm’s.
Up Next runs on iPhone and iPad, Android phones and tablets, and the website at upnext.me. The iPhone and iPad app is native Swift, the Android phone and tablet app is native Kotlin with Jetpack Compose, and both talk to the same Ruby on Rails backend that also serves the website. It’s localized in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and German, and it follows light or dark mode on every platform.
